In fact, people are Convergence’s mission and secret weapon. The company is a 50-person powerhouse with less than 4% voluntary turnover for the past two years. Kinesis has firsthand experience with this competitive differentiator, since we’re a client of Convergence’s as well!

The Kinesis way struck a chord with me, because being in IT it’s the same thing we have an issue with. Most people don’t understand what it actually takes to do IT. Similarly, we had nothing. No plan, no strategy, no brand. I just didn’t know it. So that really solidified the relationship.

In an industry driven by mechanical jargon and a deep focus on technology, Eric Gray and Jack Myers sought a way to redefine the Convergence identity around people — the purpose behind their work and the engine that drives their success.

In addition to external brand perception, however, we also had to ensure that their internal infrastructure and processes were positioned to deliver on that promise to customers. Anybody can fix your computer — how can we reshape the conversation around IT from a logistic necessity to a strategic advantage?

When we started the journey with Kinesis, the team and I wanted instant results. Kinesis continually kept us on the road, despite our efforts to wander. We would walk out of most meetings with the mantra 'Trust the process.' That was hard at first. Over time it became easier. As we got the flywheel spinning, it ended up producing an amazing outcome! The Kinesis model is hard to put into words. It is a journey one understands only after you reach the destination.

We worked with Convergence to build a brand that would effectively communicate what made them remarkable. Inspired by Shinkansen — the network of high-speed railway lines in Japan — we accentuated their commitment to connection, acceleration, and guidance. This is most effectively summarized in their new tagline, “Start here. Go further.

Before meeting Kinesis, we had rebranded three times and one of our top engineers hated every new website. When we announced this rebrand, he took off his shirt in the middle of the office, put on the new branded one, and threw the old one on the floor swearing that he would never wear it again. The fact that he has pride in the brand, it helped morale in a weird way. If we hadn’t retained our people, we couldn’t have delivered half of what we did in the last couple years.

But our work together spanned beyond just a new visual identity and website. We also mapped out their sales and onboarding process for new customers, as well as their employee onboarding process. We augmented it with a welcome kit that includes tools new employees can use to make the most of what Convergence has to offer in terms of training, benefits, and learning opportunities.

Our sales process has improved dramatically. It’s documented and consistent, which has really helped set the tone and expectations for internal staff. We also had upwards of 20 employees who had to be recruited and hired. By changing our messaging and job descriptions, we were successful in hiring all the employees we had in the docket, which we could not have done in that labor market.

With a strong foundation and the systems and processes in place to support them, Convergence has been on an exciting upward trajectory. Their brand now effectively communicates who they are and what is so special about their approach, and they are able to back that brand up with a set of tools to make the experience seamless with both customers and employees.

Even more remarkably, the company is now realizing its full growth potential: Coming from a website that generated virtually zero right-fit leads, their new online presence brings in three to four new right-fit clients per month. In 2019, the company repeatedly set records around financial performance, and the team saw their 12 best consecutive revenue months ever. In most organizations, this kind of growth in revenue and head count would mean a hit to culture — not so with Convergence. Today their turnover rate is still in the low single digits.

Since we’ve been working with Kinesis, our sales have gone up by 68%. It wasn’t like we did some amazing show that got us a million dollars, but cumulative results. It’s the kind of thing where you don’t even realize it until something happens and you think, ‘Oh, that wasn’t painful.’

Kinesis feels like a partner, not a vendor. Their team is part of our team, and vice-versa. They force us to stick to the process — and when we trust it, the results are really good.

Convergence was right on the money with their assertion that IT was about more than just individual device management. With the advent of COVID-19 and the wave of remote work, it has become more important than ever to manage your IT infrastructure with a partner you can trust.

We are excited to see and be a part of Convergence’s continued growth. And after working together since 2017, Convergence is now doubling down on the Kinesis partnership. We’re embarking on a similar journey with their sister company, Luminant, and we look forward to more opportunities to work together in the future.

The business owner has to be involved. Don’t think you can just show up for the results meeting. Our involvement made a world of difference. There is a time commitment, but I’ve never not looked forward to a Kinesis meeting. I went all in; I committed to it. Be prepared to commit to it.
