The solution is for the design company to develop a comprehensive education and assessment process that they use consistently with every client. This will serve the design team by having a client with realistic, informed expectations and it will serve the client by giving them the best outcome for their company.

Best, Wendy

I would say that there are a number of tactics to deal with this challenge...

1) Research the client and industry so that the solutions fit well
2) Present only your BEST design ideas. Don't overwhelm the client with choices. They are working with you because YOU are the expert. Guide the process.
3) Set clear expectations up front - let the client know how many iterations they will receive.

By maintaining control of the process you will help your client make good choices and keep the process on budget.
